Patriots in the Pages Summer Reading 2013 Studies show that children who read during the summer are not only able to sustain the gains made during the school year, but will continue to grow in their reading development and achievement level. Continued reading growth will provide a stronger and more confident start for your child next school year. In the light of this, we’re very excited about providing the “Patriots in the Pages” program again this summer. Below are the guidelines for Patriots in the Pages, the summer reading list by grade level, and the log sheet. Please print these items out for your use. Things are a little different this year, but we are excited about the changes to the program for this summer. We have provided the Accelerated Reader book level, but your child can read anything on this list, no matter the level or the grade. While your child is not required to participate, or to read AR books, “Patriots in the Pages” can help him/her get a start on their first quarter AR goal (in grades 3-8.) On the check-in date, the computer lab will be available for AR tests, allowing your child to earn points for the first quarter before the school year even starts!** Please keep in mind, however, that in order to be eligible to take AR tests, you must have completed the required reading log and have it signed by a parent/guardian. Please remember that each family has different standards as to appropriate content and reading material. In light of these differences, you will need to monitor your child’s reading to ensure that the selections meet your family’s standards.
**AR points will be added to the first quarter only and will not carry over to successive quarters. Your child will not be allowed to test on books lower than his/her level. Each grade level will make a decision as to what percentage of the first quarter points will be calculated.
